The Federal Green Party leader says she’s aware of three people considering the party’s federal nomination in Kamloops.
Elizabeth May was asked during a campaign stop last night in Kamloops, but couldn’t say who those people are.
“I don’t know when they’ll set the nomination date, but we’ve been nominating candidates right across Canada. We have, between people thinking about it who are very serious and those who are already nominated, we’re well on our way. We’re far ahead of where we were in 2015 in terms of the national number of candidates,” May says.
“I think the Green campaign in 2019 may well have a theme about, let’s restore to the citizens of a country the primary allegiance of their government, the government’s work for public service. And also help small business… In a lot of my other townhall meetings I’ve heard from a lot of small businesses that say if they have a violation or a bit of red tape, there’s no flexibility for a small business.”
In 2015 Matt Greenwood was the Federal Greens candidate in Kamloops and received less than 4 per cent of votes.
May says she’s optimistic there will be better support in the riding this year after both provincial Green candidates in Kamloops received 20 per cent of votes in 2017.
“I’m very optimistic that we will have 338 candidates across Canada. We have run full slates, or close to full slates, since 2004. But this time around I think we’re really going to surprise people.”
