A supportive housing project in downtown Kamloops is preparing to break ground.
The executive director of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Kamloops branch Christa Mullaly says they have been preparing the site this week at 259 Victoria Street West.
The 46-unit complex was supposed to open last fall, and Mullaly says the delay was largely due to the slope behind the property being assessed.
“We needed to ensure that we were going to get the retaining wall design correct for behind the building. So there’s quite a slope behind there that runs down behind Emerald Centre, that’s the existing operation there.”
Mullaly says the complex is now expected to open in August.
“If anyone’s driven past in the last couple of days, they will see there is equipment on site, as well as fencing that has gone up,” she noted.
“Over the next week, there is going to be work beginning on the site, primarily to level it and get it ready for concrete foundations to be poured over the next month.”
Furthermore, a 62-unit supportive housing complex operated by ASK Wellness, at 317 Tranquille Road, is expected to open next month.
