Mounties handed out 655 tickets during a three-day roadside blitz in the Kamloops area earlier last week.
Cpl. Mike Halskov with the BC RCMP Traffic Services says the blitz to personal and commercial vehicles happened along Highways 1, 5 and 5A in Kamloops, Chase and Barriere specifically.
He says there were six incidents of impaired driving, nine vehicles with open liquor and seven cases where charges were laid.
“In this particular case, we had 20 officer altogether, including our commercial safety enforcement partners. You can do the math, I think that works out to 10 tickets (given out) each per day for each officer, roughly.”
Halskov says 35 out of 99 commercial vehicles inspected during that blitz – more than one-third – were taken off the road.
“So although I don’t know specifically what they are, they can be for things like when brakes are not properly adjusted, load securement issues, other safety violations that make the vehicle non-safe for travel on the highway. And they’re taken out of service until such time as those defects are repaired.”
During the blitz, Mounties gave out 80 tickets for speeding, 28 for seat belt violations and nine for distracted driving.
