The mayor of Kamloops is taking a wait and see approach to the question of whether or not the city needs a full time anti-gang unit.
Ken Christian says the question on his mind is if the violence and shooting deaths that have plagued the city so far this year are the new normal or an anomaly.
He says the answer to that question will determine his push for a full time anti-gang squad.
“Certainly in the first quarter of 2019 we needed one but whether that is a sustained need or not is the important question,” he said.
“Right now we have been dealing with the Southeast District and they have been most responsive to our requests for additional resources in Kamloops as and when we needed it.”
Christian says the police resources being called in to deal with the gang violence have been thorough and effective.
