Kamloops Firefighters had to put out a blaze at the Emterra recycling centre on Kelly Douglad Road in Valleyview yesterday afternoon.
It happened just after 4:00 PM, and there were were no injuries.
Platoon Captain Mike Haines says it looks like the fire was accidental in nature.
“It turned out it was cardboard at a recyling facility and the cardboard had caught the converyor belt on fire,” he told Radio NL. “We had four apparatus on scene and 14 KFR personnel.”
“They were on scene for just a little over two hours.”
Haines adds that all of the employees were able to get out of the facility as firefighters attacked the flames.
“It was a commercial building,” he added. “Lots of cardboard and recycling stuff and machinery, so sometimes these things happen.”
Smoke could be seen from the blaze going east and west on the Trans-Canada Highway.
