The Chair of the Kamloops Thompson School District says they are mostly in the dark on the nuts and bolts of Wednesday’s vaccination plans announced by the province.
Kathleen Karpuk says the district only knows what the public knows, noting that the collection of vaccination records in September is a relatively simple move.
“If however we have to do something with that information after it comes along, I’m not sure how much work that’s going to cause us,” she said. “The biggest thing that I want to know going forward is what the ministry of health expects schools to do once we’ve collected the information on whether or not a child has up to date vaccinations.”
“Are they going to require the school district to follow up on that? Will the Health Units be following up on that?”
As for the in school vaccination clinics from April to June.
“With this, we’re not sure how the roll out is going to happen,” Karpuk added. “We don’t have any information about it at all, really.”
“What I find a bit confusing is the fact that most parents will be going to the health units to get the vaccination records. It seems somewhat of a duplication there.”
The province rolled out the ‘catch up’ campaign on Wednesday focusing on school age children to boost vaccination rates.
It came as a result of the ongoing measles outbreak in B.C. with 19 confirmed cases to date.
