The clock continues to tick on the negotiations between the Union of BC Municipalities and the province over a legal cannabis taxation revenue sharing deal.
UBCM President Arjun Singh acknowledges frustration may be mounting among mayors and councils as they continue to expend legal cannabis costs.
As for any update…
“Not much,” Singh said. “It is still an ongoing thing. What I have been saying publicly is that we would like to get this negotiation wrapped up.”
“There is some work being done now on a high level with local government on our costs, what we are expending on this file of cannabis regulation, we are presenting that to the committee in May potentially.”
Singh says he is hoping a deal can be reached before the next municipal budget cycle.
If legal cannabis taxation revenues are not flowing to local governments by then, then they could factor into property tax hikes.
