The two Kamloops MLAs have received an answer to their question of what is going on with the local Land Titles Office and they do not like what they are being told.
Peter Milobar says in a response the MLAs have been informed the Kamloops Land Titles Office will be downsizing to about a third its current size.
As for the reason why, Milobar says it is a head-scratcher.
“The permanent records are being moved out of Kamloops ostensibly because of needing to have them in climate controlled storage. However they have already spent a lot of money in the Kamloops courthouse renovating it over the last few years to actually do that exact thing. To move permanent records into the most seismically unsafe of the province makes no sense at all. It will over time lead to a degradation of employment.”
He says virtually every other government agency has their redundant data back ups here in Kamloops in case there is a massive earthquake on the coast.
