The Premier is waiting to hear back from the governors of Oregon and California about the issue of scrapping the twice annual time change.
John Horgan says unlike Washington State, Oregon, and California the province can act unilaterally to scrap time change
He says the western U.S. states will need an act of Congress.
After sending letters to the governors of the three U.S. west coast states Horgan says Washington State Governor Jay Inslee has already responded.
“Governor Inslee agrees with me that we should probably do this together.”
Horgan says U.S. President Donald Trump also appears to be on-board.
“I understand that President Trump tweeted in favour of that. I think that is public policy these days. If we have got support from the national level in the States as well as the coast I think we may well be seeing a change in how conduct our time in the fall and the spring.”
He says the issue is responsible for thousands of emails and plenty of people across the political spectrum approaching him at events to ask that time change be scrapped.
“Every one of them to a person said lets stop doing this lets leave daylight savings time right where it is and carry on from there. That is certainly the broad consensus I am getting from the thousands and thousands of emails that have come into my office since I raised this issue.”
Horgan says if the U.S. states jump on-board he is confident the west coast will end the time change.
On Tuesday the European parliament voted to scrap daylight saving time beginning in 2021.
