The mayor of Kamloops is concerned about thousands of records from the local Land Titles Office being sent to Victoria.
Ken Christian says we need more information especially gaining a better understanding of the process of the digitization of records and how Kamloops fits into that.
Christian says to say there will be no job losses is also not quite true.
“It is my understanding too that the jobs that are being lost are not government jobs but rather private contractors that work around the land title system. So people who would do physical title searches and that kind of thing. We need to know more about that. As well I would like to speak to the legal community and understand this situation more. I have a call in to our MLA Peter Milobar about that.”
He says the city needs to defend local jobs.
As for Councillor Mike O’Reilly’s motion to try and press pause on the moving of land title records Christian says he will give it a better look ahead of council discussion next week.
