Board members with the Thompson-Nicola Regional District will be getting a pay raise in this year’s budget.
The decision, made just prior to the board approving the 2019 budget, will mean a 19 per cent increase for rural directors and an 11 per cent raise for municipal directors.
Board chair Ken Gillis points out that even with the raise, the TNRD board still makes slightly less than neighbouring regional districts on average.
“We review our remuneration every four of five years, and we check to see where we are in relation to the other regional districts surrounding us. And we were substantially below.”
Each rural director now makes $23,700 and each municipal director is paid $14,400. The board chair also makes an extra $22,600 and the vice-chair now makes an added $4,500 on top of their director salaries.
