Industrial contractors workers people. Isolated over white background
April is Construction month and if you’re looking for job or a career change, the trades might be something to look at.
The construction industry accounts for nine percent of the province’s GDP and employs over two hundred and forty thousand people.
Chris Atchison, President of the BC Construction Association, says with all of the building going on throughout the province, there’s shortages in many of the trades.
“I would say every trade right now, electrical, carpentry, welding, pipefitting all of the standard ones,” he said. “There’s still a lot of need for many different types of trades.”
Acheson says all areas of the province are reporting shortages of skilled labour and according to the Southern Interior Construction Association, that includes Kamloops and the surrounding areas.
