With a recent flurry of donations, the Kamloops SPCA is just $38,000 away from their fundraising goal for their new headquarters.
They’ve had to raise $5-million of the $6.5-million for the project, while the BC government contributed $1.5 million.
Branch Manager Charlene Holloway says every dollar raised will go a long way.
“We can still accept donations towards that and obviously our operations will be higher because it’s a larger facility that will require more donations to run,” she said. “We are extremely proud of the community for coming out and being able to support this venture for us.”
“And it’s not just for us, it’s for the animals.”
This recent fundraising boost was a result of a number of larger donations, as well as money from the estates of various people.
BC SPCA CEO Craig Daniell confirms they got support from all over the province.
“[Fundraising $5-million] is not easy to do as well as continuing to operate your facilities,” he said. “The support from folks here in Kamloops and honestly from folks all around British Columbia, we received amazing support from right across the province.”
The new Kamloops SPCA headquarters opened it’s doors last Friday.
People can still donate online or in person at the new facility by the Kamloops airport.
