Education Minister Rob Fleming will be in Kamloops this Friday for some sort of an announcement.
There were no other details immediately available, but lobby group the Advocates for SD73 say the minister will be at Valleyview Secondary at 2:00 p.m.
Group chair Chris Ponti is hoping for good news at Valleyview Secondary, but says more funding is needed.
“Ticking one thing off a list is nice but there is a lot of needs in this district, and not just in Kamloops,” he said. “[Rob Fleming] still has got some work to do and we got to keep him on task.”
The School District has also confirmed to NL that the minister will be in the city on Friday, with a replacement or expansion at Valleyview Secondary their number one capital ask.
“If they plan to replace the entire school when an expansion is perfectly feasible, I think the district would prefer an expansion and then to use the money from not building a brand new school to go to fixing up the next two things on our list,” Ponti noted.
Rob Fleming had previously told Radio NL in December, that a major announcement is expected in Kamloops early this year.
.@Kamloops_SD73 has confirmed it has been informed #bced min @Rob_Fleming will be in #Kamloops this Friday to make an announcement. He had teased to NL in Dec a major announcement here early this year. Will it be an expansion of Valleyview Sec? Or a whole new school? #bcoli
