Kamloops city staff are still floating the idea of doing extra improvements when a major project starts on the Canada Games Pool facility.
Capital projects manager Darren Crundwell says the city may look for ways to get more use out of the space, since more than 2,000 people use it each day.
As it stands, the project will see the roof fixed and the electrical, mechanical and HVAC systems upgraded.
“We’re actually already going through the procurement stages for architects and contractors. They’re all closing here right away, we just had interviews with the architects yesterday actually, so we think we’ve got an architect on board and we’re going through a series of other procurements. We are delivering this project in a rather unique way,” Crundwell says.
“Just going through that process, we hope to have the team on board within a few months and then really start looking at designs and design options. And possibly coming back to council and asking if they do want to consider other improvements when we’re doing this work.”
The project is valued at nearly $9.1 million dollars and is expected to start next year.
