The BC Teachers Federation’s President-elect agrees with the MLA for Kamloops South on the explosion of vaping and e-cigarette use among young people in schools across B.C.
Teri Mooring says vaping has become more of an issue recently as she stressed communication and consultation to help deal with the problem.
“Communication is usually the way to go there. I think it is really important that those conversations are engaged and the problem solving happen at the local level.”
Mooring says those conversations about how to deal with vaping shouldn’t just be within school districts or among schools.
“Communication with the community and making sure there are adequate mental health supports in place for students and for families is really important.”
She says it is important to convey to students the health dangers in vaping and e-cigarette use.
Last week Kamloops South MLA Todd Stone tabled a private members bill seeking to address an explosion of vaping use by young people and ban flavoured juices catering to them.
