
It’s tax time and it can be a confusing ordeal for the best of us.
When there’s money involved, the scammers come out of the woodwork.
One of the more known scams involves victims getting calls demanding payments with things like iTunes cards
Veena Raj of the Canada Revenue Agency warns people that the only thing to do is deal the CRA directly. “The best thing is, if you think you owe, you don’t know where you stand, call CRA and say ‘Can you help me out here’.”
She continues, “That’s the bottom line. If in doubt, call CRA, don’t answer questions for strangers, don’t get caught up in scams.”
Raj adds the agency never calls people demanding gifts cards or any other kind of immediate payments.
She suggests people should log on to the CRA website at Canada-dot-ca-slash-taxes and set up an account to know exactly what your status is.
