Changes to labour rules in the province means better and more consistent care for nursing home patients.

If a company loses the contract for a nursing home, union workers now go along with the new contract instead of being let go.

Jennifer Whiteside of the Hospital Employees’ Union points out how important it is for patient care. “If you have a loved one in a care home, you want to know that your loved one is going to have regular, consistent care provided by the same people.”

Whiteside says the continuity of care should absolutely be a top priority adding the relationship seniors have with their caregivers is very important to the quality of their daily lives.
