There are still no signs of any consultation from the Land Titles Authority and Kamloops area First Nations who are upset about the removal of land title records from the city.
Whispering Pines First Nations Chief Mike LeBourdais says it has been almost a month since both the Premier and his Forests minister pledged to ensure proper consultations would be done.
“I haven’t heard anything from the province. It is like they have lost my phone number. I have had the same phone number since 1982. I have spoken to my lawyer and we do have a plan.”
He says area First Nations leaders are not going to let the issue go emphasizing how important those records are.
“There was a records office moved from Prince George and they lost those. That just scares the heck out of me. It may cost the British Columbia taxpayer more in the long run if they lose those records.”
LeBourdais says his community is not the only concerned group.
“They have got a letter from the Union of BC Indian Chiefs saying don’t do that because we need those records for our specific claims and land claims. Right now it is kind of spooky for us because we do have an active claim on the Village of Clinton. I can’t have those records screwed up, for the lack of a better term, because my lawyer needs those.”
LeBourdais has already announced his intent to seek a cease and desist order to prevent the records from being removed.
