B.C.’s Attorney General says we could see two key money laundering reports soon.
Speaking on NL’s Inside #bcpoli Dave Eby says people will be shocked by what is in the phase two Peter German report, especially around luxury car sales as well as another money laundering report by an expert panel.
As for whether or not a public inquiry is coming.
“There has been no order in council establishing a public inquiry and so no there has been no decision taken yet by cabinet on that. I can tell you that our hope is to have these reports out to British Columbians as early as next week and I think that will really help provide some context about where we are going and what the issues are.”
Eby says the information, some of which he called disturbing, will provide context about steps that will be taken to address money laundering.
“There has been a lot of concerns and questions about why is it that Metro Vancouver is the North American capitol for luxury cars especially given that you can buy luxury cars for cash. Is there a connection here with money laundering? I can tell you certainly I was very disturbed by the findings in relation to the luxury car section and I look forward to getting that out to British Columbians as soon as possible.”
And it might not just be the reports themselves unveiled next week.
“There are a couple key pieces to that. One of them is the extent of money laundering and real estate. Are we able to put a figure on that is one of the most often and frequently asked questions. We have got a number of international experts who put their minds to trying to get a sense of quantum.”
The second phase Peter German report focused on money laundering in real estate, horse racing, and luxury cars.
