The mayor of Sun Peaks is optimistic after a meeting with the Kamloops Thompson School District on Friday.
Al Raine says the municipality and the school district met to address how to house the more-than-120 grade-school students who now live in the village.
“Two issues were on the agenda, one was the long-term situation of a brick and mortar school. The first issue actually was steps we need to take forward for the coming year.”
Raine says the two sides have now created a committee that will determine what needs to done in the short-term for the student population.
As for a permanent school, the school district had that project on its list of top five priorities last June in a funding request made to the Ministry of Education, estimating a facility would cost nearly $16.5 million. The school district will submit a new list of capital funding requests to the province next month.
