Today we will get a look at both an experts panel report into money laundering as well as Peter German’s look at any role it might have played in housing and real estate.
Attorney General Dave Eby says both the reports will be unveiled just after the noon hour and both will also be factored in on any decision either for or against a public inquiry.
“I think we have had some very good reports from Dr. German and we will hear from Dr. Maloney about how to stop these activities and how to move forward.”
Speaking of moving forward Eby says action is already underway to deal with the revelations in Peter German’s report on money laundering in luxury car sales.
“the Solicitor General’s office is looking at regulations around luxury car dealerships. The minister of finance is reviewing this PST refund program that clearly has been used for purposes that were not intended. We are also working hard with police and advocating with the federal government.”
The report found gangsters were not only buying and exporting luxury cars with impunity they were also claiming millions in PST rebates.
Last fall former B.C. Deputy Attorney General Maureen Maloney was tasked with chairing an expert panel to investigate gaps compliance and enforcement of existing laws, regulations governing both financial services and real estate, consumer protections, and any jurisdictional gaps between the provincial and federal governments.
