The Thompson-Nicola Regional District says the Kamloops area is not out of the woods just yet for potential flooding this spring.
“At this stage in the spring, we’re hopeful that spring freshet is going to be dying down and not acting up,” said Michelle Nordstrom, TNRD Communications Manager.
“However, certainly that could change. We’ve been cautiously optimistic about the spring and the flood situation but we do have a couple of areas that we’ve been closely monitoring.”
TNRD officials have been monitoring several areas including Stump Lake each week in the Lower Nicola.
Nordstrom says sandbags have also been provided in an area north of 70 Mile House that dealt with mudslides earlier this spring.
“There are certain parts of the TNRD that have had high water through the spring, so we’re just monitoring those,” she said. “We’ve been actively going to the communities and talking to people there to kind of get a feel of the situation.”
Nordstrom points out the situation has been a whole different story compared to flooding woes this time last year, and officials are “cautiously optimistic” about the flood situation moving forward.
