Officials in the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) are hoping more residents sign up for their emergency notification system.
To date, about 25 per cent of residents have signed up since the system was launched in 2015.
Manager of Communications Emily Epp says they are pleased with the buy in from Cariboo area residents to date, but says it could be better.
“I think it’s been a good amount of people signing up so far,” she said. “Obviously our goal is to have 100 per cent of our region signed up, but we have definitely seen continued growth throughout the years of the program, and so we are just hoping to see that continue to grow as we go forward.”
Epp adds Cariboo Regional District residents can list up to five address to be notified of threats like wildfires, floods, and even things like chemical spills and other threats.
“The system is actually a partnership between the CRD and our member municipalities,” she added. “So people can visit their local government’s website in the Cariboo to register online. If people can’t or are unable to register online, we’re encouraging them to come in to our offices or call in and we can help.”
Epp adds even if people have already signed up, it’s a good idea to check and make sure that your information is up to date.
