The chair of the local committee for the B.C. Special Olympics is asking for your help.
Karl de Bruijn says his organization really needs volunteers, especially younger tech savvy ones to help with public relations, as well as some funding help.
“The most important help is time with volunteers and things like that. We need some help with the public relations area. We need some people who are technically savvy we need to get our message out that way.
de Bruijn says they could also use help organizing programs and helpers on all the sports events.
Is he worried about the long term viability of the organization?
“We just want to make sure that this program can continue on and support the people. We are struggling a little bit with both getting the number of volunteers we need but also financial a bit. We have fundraising activities going on. We are not different than a lot of organizations it takes money and it takes people’s time. Every one of our people involved are volunteers. No one gets paid or anything but we need funding to support the rental of the fields, the rental of school buildings, and gymnasiums and things like that for the events.”
