A 27-year-old Kamloops man – who is known to police – was arrested on Sunday after he fled from police in a stolen Jeep Cherokee.
Police were looking for the stolen vehicle, which was seen driving erratically in the 1800-block on Westsyde Road on Sunday, around 1 p.m.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the vehicle was found parked at a house, with a man and a woman walking to and from the vehicle. The man tried to run away when approached by police.
“He jumped into the Jeep and took off,” she said. “He actually struck the female with the vehicle while doing so, and then he drove the Jeep into the front end of one of our parked police vehicles, before he drove away at a high rate of speed.”
Shelkie says the officer in the vehicle that was hit also suffered minor injuries.
The man was later arrested without incident after he was seen getting out of the vehicle on Mount Paul Way, and the BC Prosecution Service is looking into charges.
The woman who was with the suspect outside of the stolen vehicle on Westsyde Road was not arrested.
