The BC Wildlife Park is facing a good news, bad news scenario.
With 19 of their 42 employees in entry level positions, this week’s minimum wage hike is going to have a big effect on their budget.
Park GM Glen Grant says when the entry level positions get a raise, most other positions will get a bump too. “As the minimum wage goes to fourteen something next and then $15.20 in a couple of years, that entry level at $15.20 is going to catch up to a couple of other groups.”
“So, we really have to be diligent in looking at ways to be proactive in generating some revenue that we can take care of our employees.”
The good news for the park is, being a non-profit with a payroll of less than one-point-five million per year, they won’t be on the hook to pay the provincial health payroll tax.
