Kamloops city staff are working to address “pass ups” at a number of bus stops.
Engineering manager Deven Matkowski says pass ups happen when a bus is at full capacity and has to leave people standing at stops.
He says in January, there were 16 pass up incidents and all but one of those happened along Routes 7 and 9.
“One of the places we’re going to utilize the 3,000 (new) hours in September is to bolster service on the 7 and the 9, because those are the busiest routes and those are the routes where we have full busses and people get left at the bus stop. Being aware of that, we’ll use some hours to probably increase frequencies and hopefully have more busses on the road and not have to leave anybody at the stop,” Matkowski says.
“Routes 7, 9 and 1 are our busiest, although we didn’t see the pass-ups on the 1 like we do on the 7 and 9. I think it ties a lot to the university, and you have a real influx of riders at certain times of the day.”
Matkowski says those 16 pass ups in January led to 156 riders missing the bus.
