There are many charities that raise millions for cancer research, but in the case with most of these big organizations, the money raised doesn’t stay in the community.
Give Cancer the Finger is a group focused on keeping all the money they raise right here in Kamloops.
As co-founder Derrick Strokon explains, for many their treatment is just the beginning.
“When your chemo’s done that doesn’t mean that the journey’s over,” he said. “The journey continues. We need to create that support. So I think rather than the personal story, this is something that has become so meaningful to all of us and one in two Canadians are going to be affected by cancer in their lifetime. We all have to get behind this.”
Co-organizer Jen Edgecombe adds our health care system does a great job with detection and treatment but we need to do more.
