With the big expansion of Valleyview Secondary now approved the Kamloops Thompson School Board will decide its new capital priorities this month.
Chair Kathleen Karpuk says the board will determine its new capital priorities at its next meeting on the 17th.
“We have to submit out capital funding requests every June. That is where we prioritize where we need school expansions, new schools, purchase of property, renovations, upgrades, and new school busses.”
Karpuk says city data shows growth projections for families in the city in Valleyview, Juniper, and especially Aberdeen.
“We know that Pineview Valley will again be a very high priority.”
The school district wants a new elementary school in Pineview Valley.
Karpuk says the ministry of education has made a change this year allowing districts to set priorities across different categories potentially allowing multiple projects to proceed.
“That is what we are hoping that by going to this new format that we actually have the ability to advance several different business cases all at the same time.”
The different categories is a change this year from the previous method of each district submitting its top five priorities.
