A Thompson Nicola Regional District area director is hopeful that a job fair in the Clearwater area next week will be beneficial for Canfor workers.

Wells Grey Country (Area A) director Carol Schaffer says the job fair will be open to all 178 employees at the Vavenby mill, who will be out of work as of next month.

“Trans Mountain is going to be there. Canfor and Interfor are going to be there. And at that time, they’re going to speak to everybody individually and see where they are and see if they’re willing to move (fields of work), or even if they’re suited for a position somewhere else.”

Schaffer says most people in her region are staying positive and waiting to see if there are other avenues for work to allow them to stay in the area.
