The Kamloops Thompson Cariboo fall election ballot is getting full as the Greens enter the fray.
Lawyer Iain Currie will be acclaimed the Green Party candidate on June 26th.
Currie says the climate crisis and the fight against climate change is the reason he is stepping into politics.
He says the issue will be top of mind for voters this fall.
“The Green plan is about moving to zero emissions. It is not moving to zero energy, it is not moving to zero transportation, it is absolutely not moving to zero jobs or economy. It is about transitioning from an unsustainable economy and an unsustainable energy system to something better.”
Currie says the environmental message is better heard coming from a political novice.
“The main issue that the Greens have always taken to heart the whole reason for the party obviously is environmental concerns. We have reached a stage in the world, in Canada, and in this election where politics needs to be done differently. I think that is a message that a novice, a newcomer, someone who is not polished can actually communicate to people better than formidable political opponents.”
Speaking of formidable political opponents Currie joins a ballot alongside Tory incumbent Cathy McLeod, Former mayor and MLA Terry Lake for the Liberals, Gina Myhill-Jones for the NDP, and rancher Ken Finlayson for the People’s Party.
