Waterway Houseboats in Sicamous announced it was in receivership last week and many customers are wondering where they stand.

Houseboats aren’t cheap to rent and people that paid deposits are wondering how or if they can get a refund.

Karla Davis of the Better Business Bureau says it’s a lot easier if you paid your deposit on a credit card.

If you paid cash, there’s a lot more involved. “For people who probably didn’t use a credit card, they may have to visit the last know address for the company, look for that notice that’s on the door, that will give instructions for people who have some outstanding arrangements with the company.”

“That’s a opportunity for them to contact whoever that trustee is to let them know, hey you’re going to have to add my name to the list of creditors because I need to get my money back.”

Davis says you should try to find out what your options are when you pay your deposit.

She adds that when a business does go broke, unfortunately you don’t know about it until your hear about it on the news.
