Mosquitoes were just awful last year and thanks to the dry weather, this year hasn’t been quite as bad, for the most part.
Cheryl Phippen of BWP Consulting, the company responsible for mosquito control, says while this year hasn’t been as bad, there is one species that’s been a problem. “It’s a really aggressive, kind of hurts when it bites species.”
“They’re kind of light coloured so if people are checking their mosquitoes out in the evening they’ll notice they’re almost yellowish and those ones are the ones that we’re kind of having some troubles with in some areas. And the biggest problem with is, like I say, they’re really aggressive. They don’t have to be in high numbers.”
Phippen says while most strains don’t like the heat, this one will come out at any time of day.
She adds the best thing we can do, other than stay inside, is use an insect repellent with DEET and follow the directions on the label.
