Update – 2:30 p.m.
Kamloops firefighters are in the mop up stages after an interface fire in the Cinnamon Ridge area, near the airport.
Crews were called around 11:15 am to the fire which grew to about 2 hectares in size, burning greener dry grass and some heavy timber as well.
KFR Assistant Fire Chief Dan Sutherland says the crews on scene did a commendable job.
“They really took things in hand to stop that fire spread in any direction.,” he said. “As it was the closest structures were a barn approximately 500 m away and of course, Cinnamon Ridge compost site was approximately 600 to 700 m away.”
Sutherland says KFR had assistance from Kamloops Airport firefighters and BC Wildfire crews as well, who had to cut down a few trees so crews could get at the fire.
“When the fire got into the timber, that did cause some concern for our crews. We did ask for BC Wildfire assistance and they arrived on scene as well with initial attack crew of four,” Sutherland added.
“We did ask for danger tree fallers to action cutting a few trees down that were of clear danger to our firefighters, so we couldn’t actually action the fire in a certain area until those trees came down.”
Sutherland couldn’t confirm what caused the fire, and he’s asking people to be vigilant because of the dry conditions in the area.

There were about 23 firefighters on scene, including four from Kamloops Airport, and three BC Wildfire personnel.
Kamloops Firefighters have not yet commented on a cause at this point, but expect to have more information later this afternoon.

Kamloops fire crews are responding to an interface fire in the Cinnamon Ridge area of the city, west of the airport.
Details are still scarce at this point, but the fire is believed to be just west of the compost facility in the area, and it was likely started by a lawn mower.
Reports also indicate that the fire is getting into trees in the area.
More to come.
