Sun Peaks has paved the way for the resort’s first retail cannabis store to set up shop.

Mayor Al Raine says municipal council has adopted a rezoning amendment for a cannabis store at 11-60 Sun Peaks Road.

“We had a public meeting that was well attended. I think in excess of 100 people turned up for the public hearing. The vast majority were in favour.”

Raine says a community meeting was held recently and most of everyone supports it.

“The issues were access to the site, traffic, signage, and those issues. Those were dealt with by council.”

The store owners are now able to apply for a provincial cannabis sales license and before receiving it will still need formal support from Sun Peak council.
