Police in Ashcroft are investigating allegations a four year old child was assaulted during a weekend soccer tournament.
“There is an allegation of an assault that took place on a four year old within a soccer tournament area. The information was disclosed to police the day after the event.”
Sgt. Kathleen Fitzgerald says the child was hurt but she couldn’t provide specifics.
“We are actively investigating the allegations and basically working backward given the delayed reporting to us. We are seeking any witnesses and information to come forward. Unfortunately there is a lot being said on social media that may not be accurate.”
Fitzgerald says the incident was reported to police the next day and they are now looking for witnesses and suspects.
“The allegations suggest we are looking for minors that were allegedly responsible for injuries to the child. We are not sure if they are participants in the tournament or siblings of participants in the tournament. From what we understand they were not from the Ashcroft area they were visitors the the Ashcroft area.”
While social media posts allege the child was severely injured she cautions against taking those posts as fact.
