A Kamloops councillor wants the Tournament Capital to host a convention of local government in the southern Interior.
Bill Sarai wants to the ask the Southern Interior Local Government Association to host the annual SILGA convention in 2022.
Sarai is on the SILGA executive and he brought up the idea at a recent meeting in Spallumcheen.
“We looked at it, Vernon is hosting next year, Salmon Arm is hosting in 2021. And I got some advice from the mayor that we hadn’t hosted in quite a while. And I think it’s time for a bigger city to host and share what we’ve been doing good and the advances we’ve made,” Sarai says, adding he would like to see the convention held in Kamloops during the current term of mayor and council.
“We can host, we’ve got the room here, we’ve got all the abundance of festivities that we can put on here… We can share what we’ve done good, and some of the struggles maybe we’re having. Maybe smaller cities can teach us lessons on what they’re doing. So I think it’s a win on both sides.”
SILGA is made up of 37 local governments, and typically more than 200 local government members attend the annual convention. Kamloops last hosted in 2015.
