Kamloops Council has approved the installation of a rainbow pride crosswalk in the downtown core, now the question is where to put it.
Mayor Ken Christian says city staff will have to figure out the new guidelines governing such crosswalks as well as.
“What you are looking for in these situations is a crosswalk where you have a high pedestrian traffic and fairly low vehicular traffic because of issues related to wear on the paint as well as safety issues,” he said.
As for where downtown it might go?
“The crosswalk on the bottom at 3rd and Lansdowne going across in front of the bridge that would carry you over to the Sandman Centre, or the one on St. Paul leading into the farmer’s market, I think it would be a good spot as well.”
Christian says while there might be some push back from some in the community Kamloops is an inclusive city accepting of all faiths, races, and sexual orientations.
“Kamloops is better than that quite frankly,” he said.
