The province says there’s no need to worry for parents this summer about getting immunization records organized for their school-aged children.
Education Minister Rob Fleming says parents will be contacted this summer by their health authority if any vaccination records are still needed.
“In terms of the to-do list of the back-to-school period, I want to send the message: for the vast majority of parents, you’re done. You don’t have to add an additional thing to get ready for the school year. And I was very pleased that as a parent, I got my record from my health authority for one of my kids yesterday attached to the report card. So certainly tens of thousands of parents got similar records like that,” Fleming says.
“The vast, vast majority of residents in British Columbia won’t have anything they need to do come September.”
The Health Ministry mandated earlier this spring that all K-12 to students will need to submit vaccination records during this coming school year… Those who have complete records will be informed of that, those who have incomplete or missing records will also be told what steps that they should take.”
As for what resources school districts may need to put into collecting vaccination records, Fleming says they will soon be receiving notice of next steps for the process from the Deputy Education Minister.
