A couple who are new to Kamloops have won the Y Dream Home Lottery in Tobiano.
Simranjot Kaur was the lucky name drawn for the brand new home.
Her husband, Manmeet Sra, spoke to NL News JUST minutes after learning they were the winners.
“I thought somebody was joking, then I realized, how would somebody know that we were in this lottery? For a second my whole nervous system, my mind was shut down. We were always dreaming of buying a home. “We were trying to cut down our budgets, just make some savings, so we can afford a decent home. Not even like something nicer, just something to go and have our own. But you know, God I think was looking at us, I would say.”
Sra says he and his wife moved to Kamloops in November, from Calgary – and says friends of theirs won a dream home lottery as well at the Calgary Stampede last year.
“I can’t believe two different people who know each other and won a similar lottery, out of two different cities. It’s kind of crazy.”
There were 15,000 tickets sold for the Dream Home lottery at $100 each, which sold out in a record 10 days. The tax assessed value of the grand prize Dream Home was $800,000.
The 50/50 jackpot winner was also announced earlier this afternoon; Tammy Kawa was the winner and takes home $97,057.50.
