The Fraser-Nicola MLA says local tourism groups are spearheading efforts to improve the Highway 1 drive through the Fraser Canyon.
Jackie Tegart says groups involved recently met in Lytton, and says they will start by pushing for improvements from there going south to Yale.
“We are extremely hopeful that this group will be able to see some improvement this year, and look at an 18-to-24-month plan, that looks at what are the priorities, and how can we ensure that we actually see activity in the Fraser Canyon,” she says.
“It is a spectacular route, and it is so under-utilized, tourism wise. I think about the Columbia Gorge, and I think about the Oregon Coast, and I think about the Fraser Canyon. We just need to spruce it up a bit.”
Tegart says the intiatives will include improvement signage and highway pullouts and identifying more trails and stops for tourists.
