With the closure and curtailments of lumber mills throughout the region, some help is on the way for some in the form of a training program.
The province is kicking in three million dollars to create 100 potential jobs in the forest sector.
Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction Shane Simpson thinks Stillwater Consulting is the right company for the job. “It’s a company that works here in British Columbia, understands the province, understands the realities of the province and it’s very practical.”
“About seventy percent of the time in this is hands on. It’s meant for people as an alternative to spending time in classrooms. It’s about teaching people on the ground to do the work they need to do.”
Simpson says there’s a three week job placement with the program and notes in many cases, those placements turn into full time jobs.
