A woman who was pulled from a trailer fire in Westsyde yesterday morning has died of her injuries.
Kamloops RCMP this morning have confirmed the fatality, but did not confirm the identity of the victim. However, a Go Fund Me Page has been set up for Fiona France, identified by friends as the victim.
The fundraiser has been set up by Brianne Gair, who says France was one of her closest friends. She says the fire also claimed the life of her dog.
Police had taken two male youth into custody yesterday that were in the area. They have since been released, but their involvement in the fire, if any, is still unknown at this time. Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the scene is still being held as the investigation continues and the fire is being treated as suspicious. “Fire Investigators with Kamloops Fire Rescue and the RCMP, with the assistance of RCMP Forensic Identification Section, will be examining the scene today. But, it’s unknown how long the investigation will be.”
Gair says she set up the page hoping to raise money to help pay for funeral expenses. She says France is survived by three children and many grandchildren.
Firefighters were called to the 800-block of Grant Road just after 3:30 a.m. yesterday and RCMP were notified about the incident about ten minutes later.
