As the BC Utilities Commission continues its inquiry into gas prices in the province, the Premier was asked about possible relief at the pump.
Back in April, John Horgan hinted “some relief” at the pumps when prices in Metro Vancouver were at $1.64 per litre.
“We’ll see how it unfolds,” he said. “Some have claimed that I’m the architect of high gas prices and I don’t recall a pat on the back when they came down because I had nothing to do with it.”
“These are market driven issues and I think the vast majority of the travelling public understands that and they would like to know why it is that in British Columbia, there are wild swings and there aren’t in other places.”
Horgan says his government will monitor the prices at the pumps over the summer.
“Once we get the data at the end of the summer, we’ll certainly take a look at that,” Horgan added. “There has been a downturn in the cost, that’s good news for the travelling public, but I don’t think that diminishes in any way our desire to find out why we have these wild swings in BC.”
The BCUC’s report is due on August 30.
