B.C.’s Health Minister says strides continue to be made to have all school-aged students in the province vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella.
Adrian Dix says nearly 28,000 student were vaccinated by health authorities between April and June as part of the measles catch-up program, announced in the spring. Including vaccines from doctor’s offices and pharmacies, that number is more than 37,000 students.
Dix says more than 95 per cent of school-aged students have now had at least one vaccination dose against measles.
“What we’re going to be doing is continuing this work as we move towards a registration system in the fall, and continuing to immunize. There are almost 50,000 students coming into schools next year and every year, new kindergarten students. So the work continues. We have to continue and push forward with this work.”
The catch-up program was introduced after nearly three dozen school-aged children had measles in B.C. earlier this year.
