Work on a BC Housing project in Kamloops will result in overnight closures this weekend through the West Victoria Street construction zone.
City manager David Trawin says the housing complex will have about 40 units and is expected to open later this year.
“Which is a modular project, they will be starting to move the modulars in. However those modulars need to be craned in place, they can’t be craned over top of the power lines which are still in place, so we will need some closures in order to get those in. But those closures will happen at night, in order to not disrupt traffic as much as we can. And also to make sure the roads aren’t closed when businesses are open.”
“We’ve known for two or three years, there has been some delays in the BC Housing project. They hoped they’d be further along and be completed before construction, but things happen in terms of design, timing and all the other stuff on projects like this. So we’re both just working around what we can do now.”
BC Housing says it will be working around Extreme Excavating’s schedule on West Victoria Street to avoid further delays during construction.
Meanwhile, the city now expects the completion date for the $13.5-million-dollar project to be sometime next year, barring any unforeseen circumstances. The original completion date was the spring of 2021.
