The Executive Director of the North Shore Business Improvement Association (NSBIA) is pleased to see the West Victoria construction project ahead of schedule.
Jeremy Heighton says there have been some traffic delays from the usual two to three minutes to get downtown to about a five to seven minute delay.
“While there have been some challenges with regards to getting in and out of the downtown core as we all know, we haven’t seen a significant business disruption from it,” he said. “But from an ability to connect to our downtown core, it is a very important arterial route.”
He says Kamloopsians – for the most part – have figured out the alternate routes to the North Shore.
“I think we’ve adapted fairly well as a community whether that’s the Red Bridge or the highway or just taking a little extra time to get to where we need to go,” Heighton added. “I think that our members have weathered the storm quite well.”
Heighton says when work was done on the Overlanders Bridge in 2015, people adapted to the alternate routes that were in place then. He thinks people were able to easily adapt to the changes this time around because of that experience.
Work was initially expected to be completed in the fall of 2020, but staff now say the project is on track for a spring 2020 completion.
