Monitoring the habits of new drivers will make BC’s roadways safer, at least that’s what ICBC is hoping.
The pilot project will take information from up to 7,000 drivers.
Road Safety Manager for ICBC, Mark Milner says they’re looking for drivers with less than four years experience behind the wheel for a reason. “That group of drivers, we’ve determined, is about three and a half times more likely to be in a crash than more experienced drivers.”
“They’re also more likely for that crash to be serious and so we think this is a group that we’re hoping we can help with this kind of technology.”
Milner says once the data is collected, ICBC will determine whether or not this is a useful way of reducing the number of crashes on the road.
