City staff in Kamloops say the province is expected to hand down penalties this month to two unlicensed pot shops in the city.
Business license inspector Dave Jones says those penalties would come from the provincial government’s Community Safety Unit, after the CSU seized product from the Canadian Safe Cannabis Society and Boomer’s Bud on July 31st.
“Unfortunately Canadian Safe Cannabis and the Boomers Bud on 12th both reopened the next day,” he said. “Since that time, I know the community safety unit has been back into town to speak with the owners of each store. They delivered I believe a piece of paper that basically outlined the product that was seized and again probably suggested that they close their doors.”
Jones says the Canadian Safe Cannabis Society closed down last week, while Boomer’s Bud continues to operate.
“For the City of Kamloops of course, we always require any business in the city to have a business licence,” Jones added. “Kamloops obviously has the option to ticket individuals that are still open, and of course, if it comes to a point where we need to, we could seek court action in the form of a court injunction.”
He told NL he’s hoping the message sent by the Community Safety Unit and the upcoming penalties sent a message urging the store owners to close their doors and then try to open up again legally.
